Whether do it in a foreign language or in English doesn't really matter, Jonsi uses his voice as another instrument and does it really really well. Actually come to think of it Icelandic and Hopelandic are actually very beautiful and interesting languages to listen to. You don't need English to make interesting and engaging music, some bands' vocals are so obscured you can barely tell what language they are singing in and even Cocteau Twins just made up words and plucked random words from the dictionary when writing lyrics. Not being able to understand the vocals also leaves more to the listener's imagination.
