Starting over; people who dig them tend to think that whatever they did before "Waitress" are their main reason for existence. I just think their earlier albums are duller than gravel.
Not sure if I've heard a truly classic album by them, though they have done some good songs. Critics seemed to jump on the 'If You're Feeling Sinister' bandwagon and everyone else followed it. Apparently indie folk-pop didn't exist before that record, though frankly I can't and don't believe that. It has some good songs on it for sure but not consistent for a classic album.

if you're talking about "Chinese Democracy", then sure.....

"Appetite" and "Illusion" - they're more a glorified Aerosmith

Appetite for Destruction was one of the best rock albums of the late 80's. It was very original sounding and catapulted them to their success. Chinese Democracy was a crapfest. Ten years to make an absolutely atrocious album.

You're half right there.

As for original sounding... the **** distinguishes Guns N' Roses from Motley Crue and Ratt?

The vocals definitely do. Stephen Pearcy and Vince Neil both are not equal on vocals at least technically speaking. Although I liked Too Fast For Love, in its time a good hard rock album. Ratt was big with Out of the cellar but Warren Demartini admitted he couldn't play rhythym worth a **** and he was right.

uh... technically speaking? Axl Rose technically sounds like a cat run over by a lawnmower. Besides, it doesn't quell the original comment of them being sort of Aerosmith knockoffs.

Guns N' Roses are the same hair metal crap 10 years before them. ****, they're not even that great technically. I mean, compared to say Mr.Big, they weren't even that impressive instrumentally.

First of all, let it be known i'm not a big guns and roses fan. But technically speaking he is far better than Stephen Pearcy and Vince Neil which was your original comparison. I don't understand how they are Aerosmith knockoffs either. They sound nothing like Aerosmith. I don't consider them hair metal, hair metal is Poison, Warrant, and Mr ****ing Big. Sure Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert can play but does anybody care? The answer is hell no, because Mr Big was opening for everybody not headlining like Guns and Roses. I saw them open for RUSH on the Presto tour and Mr Big was lame. They are gymnastic guitar players, i don't feel anything for the music when i hear it, except sick to my stomach.

Yes, they are lame, but no more or less than Guns n' Roses. Guns N' Roses might be overhyped to hell but they're still just a carbon copy generic hair rock band.

I also agree with Mr.Big being boring, but they share the same traits of all blando pop-rock, and at least they have ONE thing going for them. Guns N' Roses rises off the illusion of Slashes overhyped guitar work being somehow beyond ordinary when, even compared to less popular hair metal bands, it isn't.

Appetite for Destruction had an attitude that none of the other hair metal bands had. The first three songs basically laid waste to the rest of the hair metal brigade. Sure the album wasn`t very original and came across as Aerosmith meets the Sex Pistols but they were certainly the best of all the Aerosmith knockoffs.
