i think Eno's "treatments" are understated, compare the first 2 Roxy Music albums with the third

Does Eno play the Chello? I just precieve him as a studio/recording consultant.

I thought they were a pretty unique band. Had that funk undertone and Hoon's amazing vocals. Pretty damn good lyrics too.

Jeff Lynne was probably good enough as a song writer, to rank up there as one of the best of his generation with his Beatles influenced sound. It`s just a pity that he resigned himself to writing a whole load of drivel for ELO.

someone on another board I go to said it perfectly: "David Bowie - A cup of pretentious dribble anyone? OK, he was a capable songwriter, maybe even a music/fashion genius and he knew how to move things along. But I buy records and listen to music for the music.....there's something lacking here."
Bowie has released some of the greatest albums ever recorded in "Hunky Dory" "Ziggy Stardust..." "Aladdin Sane" "Low" and "Heroes" the last of those came out in 1977! Since then most of his material despite the ocassional good song has mostly been a waste of time. So based on his post late 70`s releases, well yer he`s very overrated.

(I never hear anyone talk of 'em here at MB)
To be fair they were nothing special and if it were not for Shannon Hoon`s typical rock star style death and supposedly being the cousin of Axl Rose, I doubt anybody would remember them.

hey ELO is pretty darn great! have you heard El Dorado or A New World Record? both classic albums

i seem to figger you're basing their songs on their singles?

They were good enough but their music hasn't dated very well. I'm not too fond of Shannon's voice either as he sounds a bit too much like Axl Rose at times.

But I do agree that Soup is better than their debut.
