The comments about Daft Punk being mediocre is definitely unpopular for me. Their music is innovative it kick started some better electronic music in the 90's and they are soooo still relevant.

That's not an ENTIRELY unpopular opinion I feel, I think it just comes down to preference.
Pinkerton is a darker more Emo album, Blue is more Power Pop. Both great. Does anyone know what happened after Pinkerton? I think the lead singer/songwriter must have lost the plot. If only they had quit after Pinkerton *sigh* |

Is that the reason why? I always figured the songwriter lost the plot and decided to write catchy, but really impersonal shite instead of the great songs he used to write. The shift in quality from Pinkerton to Green is staggering. Green seemed so impersonal and contrived.

Rivers is the 'principal songwriter', I always assumed he wrote the lyrics and the music.
I'm no expert either, I have huge respect for Blue and Pinkerton but everything else they've done is a bit of a joke. I assumed Rivers just wanted to make money and to stop making personal songs where he put his heart into it. Maybe Matt Sharp leaving contributed somewhat as well. |

Well, we all know how important the bassist is to a band...
