You've gotta listen to what Gaffin sings about. They're very much not your typical mind-numbing punk lyrics.

Quote:
Bad Religion - God's Love

Striking at mental apparitions
Like a drunk on a vacant street
Silently beset by the hands of time
Indelicate in its fury
An aberrant crack as skeletons yield
To unrelenting gravity
While viruses prowl for helpless victims
Who succumb rapidly

(Tell me!) Tell me; where is the love?
In a careless creation
When there’s no “above”
There’s no justice
Just a cause and a cure
And a bounty of suffering
It seems we all endure
And what I’m frightened of
Is that they call it “God’s love”

Twisted torment, make-believe
There’s a truth and we all submit
“Believe my eyes,” my brain complies
To all that they interpret

[Chorus]

I know there’s no reason for alarm
But who needs perspective when it comes to pain and harm
We can change our minds; there’s a better prize

But first you’ve got to…
[Chorus]

They call it God’s love
My pain is God’s love

Daft Punk- Why? Why? Why?

They have made a few OK tracks but the way some people go on it's as if they are the only Electronic band out there doing anything and what makes it worse is that they are one of the least progressive Electronic bands out there and put away those stupid helmets will ya lads? It is so pretentious.

I agree with this one. I find that electronic music's canon artists are really a mixed bag (I pretty much love all of the trip-hop/downtempo forerunners, but that's about it). I had never been impressed with the 'house' music that I was fed by online game montage videos... But once I did some investigating in its underground, there was a lot to write home about.

Bad Religion fans in general piss me off. Something about their fanbase is so assuming and, when you ask them ONE question about a band that isn't punk or isn't directly related to Bad Religion/has called B.R. one of their influences, they just declare it's not worth their time. At least that's my experience. Many of them seem to hate the 60s entirely, too. But fanbases aren't really a good point of argument... Suffice to say, I agree that Bad Religion are <the first word of their band name>.

Sister by Sonic Youth is one the most overrated albums of the 80s. I like it, but it's so underwhelming in comparison to the album that it follows, as well as the three it proceeded.

Agree with you guys. Daft Punk are pretty mediocre. I listened to their first album when I was just getting into electronic music in the mid 90s, I liked it. Beyond that? Bleh to the max. I do love a lot of house music but was a bigger fan of deep house and the dirty garage/underground grooves.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Le Peuple De L'Herbe, Cassius, St Germain and MC Solaar are a far better barometer of recent French electronic music.

That Crash Test Dummies song "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" is actually pretty good.

Yeah, I like that song a lot. I started humming it as soon as I read your post. Honestly, I haven't listened to anything else by them though.

EMF - Stigma - The album that went deep into the cut out bins - >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Schuber t Dip. Big production and oddly enough with a style that predates Nu Metal, but actually listenable. They went weird (Especially with the videos), the fans went away, and I liked it. Sadly, Cha Cha Cha was a major disappointment, but they made their career cliff dive and it was a good and catchy one, making it into my lists forever. "It's You" remains my favorite EMF single.
