You even think "Presence" is amazing?

Interesting. I think IV is one of the best albums, ever. I wonder if that's unpopular here.

I really like Presence, Achilles Last Stand is brilliant and among their best. My main reason for my hatred of IV is the amount of airtime Stairway To Heaven and Black Dog get, to the point I despise the songs and have to skip them. Which makes the album much worse for me.

Sigur Ros don't sing in gibberish, they sing in Icelandic. On () they made up an entire language called Hopelandic and even though it doesn't actually exist, they did form a completely working language for it. It is hardly gibberish.

Hopelandic is the one I mean. It's a ridiculous idea. I listen to a large amount of foreign language music and love it because you can tell that these languages are steeped in culture and are very beautiful. Making up a language just takes away from all that.

Achilles Last Stand is without doubt the best thing on that whole album. Stairway to Heaven was always one of my least favourites of the so called Zeppelin classics. Black Dog I love (but I can see why some people could get annoyed with it)

I actually prefer the Far Corporation`s version of "Stairway to Heaven" Now that is an UNPOPULAR OPINION.

The Battle Of Evermore makes up slightly for Stairway, that is a great song.

They've released plenty of albums where they sing in Icelandic. The fact that they chose to experiment with something else once doesn't really take too much away. Besides, while from another country, Sigur Ros' music isn't particularly foreign; it borrows from a lot of concrete examples of post-rock/ambiance, and I don't think the fact that they don't sing in their native tongue on occasion does much.

The album that Hopelandic appears on (part of Ágætis byrjun and ( ), but it's position of Agae is so minimal that I won't even bring it up any further). ( ) is extremely bleak and has no 'real' album title or song titles. It's only expected that the lyrics would be the same, formed to be composed of an absolute void. The idea of any of the words on ( ) having meaning is a weird thing to think about, as the album is virtually void of any tangible 'titling' for anything.

It's also done as a means for fans to get involved:

Quote:
All of the lyrics on ( ) are sung in Vonlenska, also known as Hopelandic, a constructed language of nonsense syllables which resembles the phonology of the Icelandic language. It has also been said that the listener is supposed to interpret their own meanings of the lyrics which can then be written in the blank pages in the album booklet.

But can't you also interpret the meaning of music without nonsensical lyrics? As in, instrumental music?

Maybe I dislike Sigur Ros because a lot of the times the singing reminds me of speaking in tongues, which I closely associate with religious lunacy.

And it is only one damn album in Hopelandic. Most everything else is Icelandic!
