Indie doesn't really define genre though. It's like a label.

I was talking about the really popular indie bands that pitchfork praises unconditionally.

especially those indie-folk ones that everybody goes on about.

There are actually alot of subgenres within 'indie' (whatever that may mean), so I can't imagine you hate all of them. Right?

I don't really like all those indie folk bands like Mumford & Sons either, but there are a bunch of great indie bands in the 80s, 90s and even the noughties.

Pitchfork blows. Take all of their reviews with a grain of salt because if they don't like it they score it very low and if they do like it they score it very high. And if they have a band as "best new artist" or whatever their legion of fans go out and buy that album and make them popular. It's sorta like Oprah's book club and her support from middle age women across America.

Which bands do you really not like?

eh, Neutral milk hotel, feist, all of those other super-hyped things.

also, I dislike folk music in general so of course I'd hate indie-pop-folk stuff.

Neutral Milk Hotel's got some really rocking tracks. I think his voice turns some people off.

I agree with you about Feist though. Not a big fan.

I don't listen to a whole lot of Indie pop but there is a lot of indie rock out with a lot of bands doing really different things.

Boards Of Canada is an "indie" band since they're not on a major label.

*Animal Collective is the only exception.
What Jedey said...pretty much everything you listen to is "indie" because almost none of it is on a major label

I'm guessing she meant "pitchfork-core" indie.
