Unpopular music opinion: The early nineties was as fervently creative and interesting as the late sixties...

I would have to disagree with you to the point that I believe the late 60's ( and early 70's) represented the apex of creaivity in recorded music, and the late 90's represented the bottoming out as far as creativity is concerned.

You see I think the same could be said of any era, really, it all depends on which generation is dictating what the "popular" thoughts of the time are... for years and years I have listened to people say how glorious the sixties were, and i can't accept that... I am sure there was some utter bull**** and crap music going on just like there is today... but the baby boomer population was the predominant productive group in society, economically and culturally, so their views tended to rule...
Now, funnily enough, I hear people talking about how "great" the eighties were and how much creativity there was going around... but ten years ago, the eighties were considered a massive joke musically speaking. But you see all those eighties kids are now grown up and starting to dominate the ideas / concepts and fashions we consume... And now people kinda write off the nineties as terrible... I wonder what will be said in ten years time. It's all kinda cycling like that in my opinion, and it's got alot to do with which generation has the reigns as far as generating the trends of the day.

And in the 90s, My Bloody Valentine (Loveless!), Guided by Voices and Pavement put out awesome albums. And what about Spiderland? The nineties are pretty cool!

However, even the 90s ****s on most of the mainstream stuff from the 00s. Glad that decade's in the past now.

inspirational Dylan's, Beatles, Doors, Stones etc, you still had crap like "Yummy Yummy I've Got Love in my Tummy".... in the 70's with all that great prog, punk and the like, you had the Captain and Tenielle... In the eighties, amonst all that great early grunge and alternative, you had crud, too... every era's mainstream seems to throw up a mix of utter junk and just a few transcendental, great artists....
