I would like your experience in this matter, or at least an explanation of why you think that. |

If it was that easy every Joe blogs would be making electronica music, but like every other instrument it's an artform.

Making good stuff is the challenge. In my experience it's easier to make Electronica than to play an instrument. To actually make good music with either it's probably equal but to learn computers are easier. I don't really know much about this suject so i'm most likely talking ****, but from the experiences i've had from using both, Electronica is easier for beginners. I think this discussion really boils down to a difficulty of getting words across. |

I can drum all day with my eyes closed, but when you need to know how synthesis works so you can actually create a patch for a brand new sound and use it creatively in a song and make the song sound good, while also painstakingly piecing the drums together along with everything else in the entire song... well that takes A LOT more work than strumming out some riffs as a single member of an entire band and putting out 90 percent of the stuff most people listen to and consider "good". I dunno... some people might think that's just my opinion, but I've been playing music (on instruments) my entire life and making electronic music for over 12 years so I know a little bit about what actually goes into it. I'm not trying to be snotty or anything... just trying to help provide at least a little objectivity in the matter, if that's possible. |

But seriously, Vanilla, I'm not sure if I understand how your post relates to Freebase's. I would say the vast majority of making electronic music doesn't involve playing the keyboard at all. |

Of all the instruments I've played. Guitar is the hardest.
Bass is much easier to learn, though not to say it's easy to play well, but not having to worry about chords is a big advantage. Chording is what I really suck at when it comes to guitar, and note memory I guess, having less notes to work with is good. Keyboards is easier to play than string instruments both when it comes to chords and when it comes to playing lead though doing both at once is what makes it hard. Synthesizers are very easy and convenient to work with, as some settings can only be played with one key at a time. Drumming is harder than it looks, being the backbone of a band is a great responsability and even when you learn the techniques (some of which are pretty trick) keeping time still takes practice. Banjos (yes I own a Banjo) like the bass are an instrument I recommend for people who don't want to deal with chords as much. It requires way more fingerpicking skills than a guitar though and that sh*t is hard. Harmonicas are pretty easy to play. Recorders and Flutes are pretty hard to get a smooth sound let alone play. Violins are definitely one of the hardest instruments to get to produce a clean tone. I don't agree with that. I definitely think writing a classical music suite for a symphony orchestra is way more challenging than writing a 3 chord, 2 minute punk song for 3 instruments. I spent 10 years being classically trained on piano and it really opened up the doors for me to be able to play other instruments. I'm not classically trained on anything else but I'm going to assume it would take just as much time and effort to become great on any other instrument. I've had a lot of friends start on different instruments then try to transition to piano. They say it's harder than the instrument they play because there is more going on. Personally, I had an easier transition to playing bass and drums, which I do casually.
