The Doors are a huge influence on all three, not a minor one by any means.
Iggy takes after the more rowdy side of the doors, JD the more dark and brooding and Danzig somehwere in between. With JD it isn't as obvious, but with a lot of Danzig and Iggy/Stooges it totally is. |

Danzig has based his entire vocal style on Morrison, to a goddamn t.
The Stooges/Iggy take a lot after The Doors beyond vocals. Their slower songs are very Doors esque, and their fast songs sound like Doors songs too only sped up and with distorted guitar and crappy musicianship. Heh, no wonder The Stooges are more hip. |

I suppose I can see a bit of the influence in the Stooges music, not so much with Iggy solo though. |

Yeah Iggy's solo stuff (which is superior to The Stooges by a damn good deal) is more diverse but I still hear stylistic influences from The Doors in there too.
Danzig's music is mostly based around the cult of his personality, his music is very dominated by the vocals, it's by no means a trivial part of his music. |

They're not related, you have to consider lyrical content too but as a progger, you could never do that right? Also, your last comment only shows ignorance to their discogs, maybe not the Stooges so much as the Clash |

Yeah I'm sure lyrical content is a big factor for you, I just don't get solely praising or discrediting an artist solely for that reason as if it's the only thing that matters. The Doors did songs about mysticism and f*cking and The Stooges just did songs about f*cking. Why anyone would find them more lyrically interesting is beyond me. My brother listens to him all the time so I hear him more than I normally would. |

and yes, now that I looked through my Amon Tobin CDs and compared it to "Music Has The Right To Children" and held them up into the light next to my copy of Drukqs, i'm starting to think of IDM as a dumping ground for bands that don't quite belong in techno, are too hard and abrasive to be ambient, and isn't hard enough to be any of those industrial styles. And is it just me or does "intelligent Dance" sound a little y'know, pretentious? But I must admit, IDM sure is fun to listen to. TL;DR version: Dubstep isn't quite developed yet, and IDM is way too broad of a genre. oh, and Casio-Core makes no sense. |
