There are some very good songs on it, some filler and some experimental stuff like "Bugs" which is a great song as you say. Overall I see Vitalogy weaker than both the previous Ten and VS.

I tend to count 'Bugs' as filler but some people might get enjoyment out of it. I thought it was funny at the least.
@Alex. Even three filler tracks is too much in my mind. On the other hand, they didn't need filler anyway. If you take out the filler, (but leave Bugs) you have a 44 minute album. Still 'Stupid Mop' is one of the worst filler songs ever. I wonder if anyone out there enjoys it. But Vitalogy also has some of Pearl Jam's most underrated songs like "Last Exit" (which is a better opening song than even "Go") "Whipping," and "Satan's Bed." Unlike most PJ fans, I actually found 'Yield' kinda boring, but then again, 'Riot Act' is my favorite PJ album. |

I don't really like his guitar playing even if his skills are impressive, his riffs are terribly generic and his solos rely heavily on ornaments (which today are metal cliches) to mask the fact that he can't really write very good hooks or melodies, nothing wrong with flashy solos (being a Van Halen fan) but his excessive use of vibrato and pinch harmonics is overkill I think. I also strongly dislike him as a person. Mainly because he's a hateful, sexist, racist, homophobic douchebag. |

I think Yield is a step down from Vitalogy and No Code, but it still has several really good songs. "Given to Fly", "In Hiding", "Brain of J.", "Wishlist", and "MFC" to name a couple. Far from a bad album, but definitely not their best.

^mhmm, i really enjoy it for how fresh it just sounds. i mean, Vs. is a REALLY close 2nd for me, but Yield just has such a vibrant feel with the guitars and Eddie's vocals on songs like MFC, Given to Fly, etc.
