Nobody has given a flying fuck about Art Brut since about 2006.

Swell Maps are good but not better than Wire.
Cardiacs? I don't even see how they can be compared.

For me, only The Fall are better than Wire when it comes to post punk.
That said, I entirely disagree with your opinion about Entertainment, Urban. To me it's one of the freshest and most rewarding post punk albums, and I think Gang of Four's sound is anything but a borefest - they really did master their style, like boo boo said. Obviously it's a style you aren't into, but the album is top notch in my opinion (as is Solid Gold). |

Actually I take it back, Pink Flag is definetely Wire's best, because they worked best at punk rock.
Overall Wire's greatest flaw is that their melodies just aren't that striking. On Pink Flag the songs are really short but that's a great thing it means they don't overstay their welcome. On Chairs Missing some of the songs kinda drag. With 154, I think that one is much more about the atmosphere so it doesn't have to be catchy but it's a quality from Pink Flag that I miss. I'd say there are a handful of better post punk bands than Wire. But that's not including The Fall, a band I've yet to hear anything interesting enough from to invest any interest in. I thought The Pop Group & Liquid Liquid did the whole funk thing much better than Gang Of Four ever did personally.

I would rate The Pop Group up there with Gang of Four, they're a truly unique and excellent band. I'm not a huge Liquid Liquid fan, although I do like them... but they can leave me feeling a bit cold sometimes. I dunno, I definitely enjoy some of their songs but I find their self titled album quite hard to get through.
