That sounds to me the opinions of someone who's never actually heard anything other than Pink Flag.

I dunno if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't like The Travelling Wilburys.
I know that its, like, the most epic supergroup eva! but with Dylan, Petty, Orbison, Lynne AND George Harrison, but I would have expected a little more than just what they put out.

I think you are confusing his reputation out in the real world with his reputation on this forum. He is completely underrated...how often do you actually hear someone you are just hanging with go "damn, put on some Swordfishtrombones"....not often, man.
But maybe it is different for you guys in the UK...

I don't know many people into music apart from the obvious bands - Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Libertines, The Strokes etc.
And the couple of people I know who take a real interest in it do like him.. So I don't know, he seems to be overrated on this forum anyway. I don't know about the real world, but his voice annoys me. I don't see the appeal, maybe I need to give him more listens but I've never been keen. |

Wire went through a significant evolution in just 2 years I'm not denying that. Pink Flag and 154 don't even sound like they're from the same band. Pink Flag is their catchiest and 154 is their most interesting sonically though it lacks strong melodicism. Chairs Missing is their best as it's the transition album and maries the strong points of those other two albums. But Entertainment! is superior to them all and for the reasons that I cited. |
