I don't really consider Tortoise or Slint post rock.
Or Flying Saucer Attack for that matter.

They may have been an influence on it but they're nowhere near as dull & plodding Godspeed You whatever or Sigur Ros

Slint are DEFINITELY more dull and plodding than Sigur Ros who actually have an understanding of structure, melody and harmony. I can certainly understand why people find GS boring and plodding and they certainly can be but overall they're still a very original and creative band and their songs actually have satisfying climaxes as opposed to Slint who have like one minute worth of musical ideas and somehow stretch it into a 40 minute album.

If they offered instrumental versions of their music, it'd be different.
One of the most famous Metallica songs, Orion, is an instrumental. Maybe give it a listen...that song alone weened me on to Metallica.

There comes a point in your life where you have to ask yourself ' Do I want to sit through 20 minutes of droning noises for some climax that may well not come'

And quite honestly there's sex if I want that,

Post Rock can kiss my arse.

Well, I don't consider post-rock to be a specific genre with a very strict rules. It can be argued that these first bands like Slint, Tortoise etc are classic post-rock. Only after tremendous influence of Godspeed You... and Mogwai has it become a proper genre and we see the results in this decade. It has no where to go.

Godspeed and Sigur songs DO have climaxes.

I have heard my share of post rock bands who dont though and I blame Slint for giving them the idea.

Yeah Hetfield's voice I'm not too crazy about. I don't really mind Kiedis but he can be irritating sometimes, but overall I think he does just fine and he does give the band some of their uniqueness. I think Patton was an excellent singer once he dropped the nasally gimmick.

And I actually love Corgan's vocals.
