I think the 70s was the pinnacle for the sheer quantity of significant musical movements that it gave birth to. Hard rock, progressive rock, funk, glam rock, krautrock, heavy metal, punk rock, post punk, new wave. I think in sheer quantity of landmark music the 70s wins out.

In terms of amplitude of innovations, and not the sheer effect of them, yeah I'd say that win goes to the 70s. Kind of depends on which way you look at it though, and I'd that in 'general' there really isn't a perfect pick.

That's not really an unpopular opinion, I'd say it's actually the typical rockist perspective. I personally don't subscribe to it though. There was a lot of great music in the 70s and there were a lot of people experimenting, definitely. But that not unique to the 70s, you can find lots of great music and experimentation in every era.

I was just looking for an excuse to bitch about screamo some more. Granted it's not a super unpopular opinion but the fact that Caveman hangs around here adds an element of danger to it.

Imagine is great but Plastic Ono Band is better. Plastic Ono Band > All Things Must Pass = Imagine > Ram I just want to say that none of these guys (of the three, Ringo not included) are "cack" as solo artists. And please stop saying cack. Last edited by boo boo; 06-24-2010 at 06:39 AM. |

I think that aside from a few bands like Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Muse, etc. The british rock scene is really pitiful right now. The Libertines, Art Brut, The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party. Pretty awful stuff.
Arctic Monkeys are one of the better new bands to come around and they're not really that great but because decent british bands have become such a rarity people have to hype the sh*t out of them. Hell even Muse are starting to suck. I guess after 4 decades of awesomeness the brits had to go downhill eventually. USA!!! USA!!! USA!!! |

I like Queen a lot, at least their 70s stuff. I do hate how popular We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions are though. Never been among their best songs. And if you like to attend sporting events there's no escaping them.
