As for The Beatles, I dunno why Help gets so overlooked. It's a perfect pop album, not as ground breaking or respected as their other albums and rightfully so, but if you want an album filled with great pop songs look no further than Help!

No it's not, if you don't like a band and everyone else thinks they're great, that's pretty good grounds for calling them overrated. That's essentially what the word means.

Red and ITCOTCK are far from shit. While their albums on a whole may have monumental amounts of hype surrounding them, single tracks ("Epitaph" is pretty much genius) are fantastic and are basically gateways into the genre. For the most part, it was just progressive rock completely void of pretentious wankery, which you know, most people seem to dig nowadays (hence why Dream Theater hatred is skyrocketing).

Launching the progressive rock genre IS pretty groundbreaking. There are earlier albums that could be considered prog but ITCOTCK is the first to not have any blues or r&b influences. For a rock band that was pretty unheard of. |
