I don't mind it. Especially since your average person will not know what the hell it is. It sounds like some crazy out there genre of music that only the elite know about. Well...maybe that's true.

I didn't know what Shoegazing was until I joined this forum. I asked what the fuck Math-rock was but I'm still yet to find out.

I wouldn't really call them math rock, but they are probably an influence to modern math rock bands because they used strange time signatures.

it's because the originators of the style made conscious choices to eschew the ostentatious behavior of the **** rock stars that preceded them and made the decision to stand relatively motionless while performing. generally just staring downward toward their instrument (or their shoes). the amount of pedals is an ancillary detail.



and math rock is prog for nerds who don't want to be associated with prog. same as how 'indie' is absolutely nothing more than 'alt-rock' for my little cousins.

LOL Yes is listed in the math rock wiki? Math rock is definitely influenced by progressive rock but I would not go as far (and it's really far) as to say Yes is math rock.

As for shoegaze, I associate the mopey and kind of shy or introverted sound of the music with the name more than I do effects and staring down at pedals.
