Personally, I don't think there's anything you can do on one instrument that you can't do on another.
Except maybe the triangle, I don't think you could do a particularly interesting solo with one of those. But yeah. If people can let loose on the guitar, why not the drums? Though drum and bass solos work better when there's other musical accompaniment, since they are rhythmic instruments. |

Solos don't have to be melodic, they can also be rhythmic.
Actually, they don't have to be either, if you're into ambient and avant garde stuff. |

Not bothered if it's 'close minded' I don't want to listen to drum solos. If that's close minded then so be it, don't see how it's close minded to dislike something. But fair enough.

Muse declining? Idk, maybe. Perhaps they just felt that they'd saturated the space rock genre that dominated their first 4 albums and wanted to head in a new direction. I like The Resistance, granted, not as much as I like Absolution and Black Holes, and I wouldn't say they're "declining", just changing.

Eh I'll probably refrain from that statement because I haven't yet heard The Resistance.
A 13 minute prog epic? That's obviously the kind of direction I was hoping for. |
