Meanwhile I think both Phoebe and Radiohead are pretty great in their own ways. They're both probably "overrated" whatever that even means, like I always wonder what our baseline is for how they are rated. It's a lot more abstract of a statement than people make it out to be.

Well

Also, let's see in 50 years which of the two will be remembered. My money is on Radiohead. They've made at least 2 albums that are widely considered classics, don't think Punisher will have the same staying power, or influence.

It's usually when they're overhyped or have innovations falsely attributed to them. Well-known artists with a foot in the art sphere and another in the pop/radio sphere are generally overrated by a lot of people, but the opinions on them are so numerous that overrating gets evened out by the overhating. In the same sense, opinions on artists like The Beatles and Radiohead can't really be unpopular because they're held by so many people.

Notice that I was comparing how overrated they are, not how good or influential. All the same, there are many musicians far better than radiohead who are remembered less. That's rather an argument for how overrated than how good they are.

Out of curiosity, can you name some?

nice try pulling an OccultHawk

But since you're reasonably polite about it I'll bite: Sleater-Kinney, the Flaming Lips, and the White Stripes, to name the first 3 bands that come to mind in approximately the same genre.
Although I guess the White Stripes are as famous as Radiohead

I don't know what "pulling an OH" means, I was just curious.

I'd say all 3 of the bands you mentioned are critically and commercially successful and respected. Time will tell what will happen with Phoebe but at the moment I don't think she can be mentioned in the same conversation as any of those bands...or Radiohead.

But anyway, just my opinion of course...

The last Important Rock Movement was actually emo, but that's only because of a decline in monoculture than a shift in the quality of music. Might as well be complaining about a lack of innovative trends in telegraphic shorthand.
