I don't think taste is/should be a reaction.

My view is that good taste is when someone identifies music that they're passionate about, ideally by exploring the field. Then there are people with no taste who will put on Music when it's appropriate but don't really think about it. The only thing that I'd directly call bad taste is when people are passionate about music as a status symbol or statement. That could be listening to Pantera to represent the south, going to the opera because it's "classy", listening to reggae because you smoke weed, Tiny Desk-curated appreciation of foreign artists to feel cultured, listening to Nugent to own the libs, etc.

um ... you taste with your tongue, and you see with your eyes. Honestly how did you become a mod?

I admit they lend themselves to greatest hits compilations but personally these three have made into my head as records I’ve listened to a pretty lot, especially Opera.

A Night at the Opera
The Game
Flash Gordon

Seaside Rendezvous is overly kitschy and I don't ever want to hear Bohemian Rhapsody ever again in my life, but Night At the Opera is a great listen.

God forbid someone irl finds out you like Queen and decides to tell you about how Freddie Mercury's voice was proven to be perfect by science though.

These days I don't ever listen to Queen when I can listen to Sparks.

Why Freddie Mercury's Voice Was So Great, As Explained By Science

I wouldn't mention it if it didn't happen to me three times lol. You can try to explain art, punk, or even folk to these people but they're in the same segment that defines those things by wearing a beret, a mohawk, or overalls, respectively. Being the Music Guy at work was hell.

Omg I can imagine. I'm the Music Person in my environment (I know...) but the main thing I have to deal with is 'oh hey, its your music!'-jokes whenever there's a noise from some machine or whatever, so that's all right
