Sounds like you never bothered with Moz. It's like you're prefer a group you know well against some artist you don't even know. That's not an "unpopular" opinion, that's like a universal given, everybody does that.

Well, I listen to OutKast but... I really don't see myself liking Morrissey over OutKast at all.

I like them both. I don't think I could decide who I like more. Of their genres, both artists are exemplary. Stankonia is my favorite Outkast album and The Queen is Dead is my favorite Smiths album (for what it's worth, Viva Hate is probably my favorite Morrissey solo album). Both albums are probably 9/10 from me. This probably wouldn't qualify as unpopular, but I'll take Tribe Called Quest over Outkast any day of the week. |

Secretly, I find Tribe pretty boring and when I saw them on SNL promoting that comeback record in 2016 I actually felt bad for them.

But I do have a firm opinion about their second album, 'The Low End Theory'. Honestly, that might be my favorite hip hop album period. The effortless fusion of jazz, break-beats, and smooth rapping is a combination that is, at least for me, peerless. A lot of folks like to talk about 'Midnight Marauders', and, as good as that album is, it just doesn't hang with TLET in terms of cohesion. Surprisingly, their fourth album, 'Beats, Rhymes & Life' is criminally underrated in both public and critical reception. By this point, J Dilla was brought into the fold of production and writing. Perhaps the best example of his influence can be found in the following song, which I'd nominate as the best song of the album. I'm guessin most of y'all have listened to 'The Low End Theory' before, but if not, quit sleepin. |
