Well anger is a very vague emotion. You could say being angry is a core component of any genre.

I don't think they're supposed to be nu metal either tbh.

Na, they're def numetal. The idea behind genre is to make a melting pot of genres with metal being the core genre. Slipknot definitely did that.

Punk is especially angry and voices it explicitly. It’s not vague.

No it isn't. The core of nu metal is a hip hop and funk influence.

No it's not. The core of nu metal is is extreme metal that's why it's called nu metal. You won't find nu metal in a hip hop or funk playlist, but you will find it in a... metal playlist. Hip Hop and Funk are just two of the genres from the melting pot I mentioned. You're also missing industrial from that.

omg Yes of course there's metal in nu metal, you crank, I just didn't think I'd have to say that. You're just confusing nu metal with alternative metal, which nu metal is a specific movement within. The distinction being that alt metal was never really a genre, just a loose collection of bands with vaguely similar influences, whereas nu metal was more of a cohesive sub-genre.

Batman is correct.

Slipknot is nu metal enough but calling them groove metal might be more appropriate.
