"New Wave" isn't dumb. It already existed previously in the film industry and decades later it was applied to music at the time. The name existed at the time the music came out. Shoegaze was practically used from the beginning. It was a jab at the guitar players staring at their pedal boards, the name stuck. It would be dumb if people on RYM started calling it "Pedalwave."

Malcolm McLaren wanted the Sex Pistols to be known as a "New Wave" band, but much to his chagrin "Punk Rock" stuck as the descriptive marketing buzz word.

actually the snare on st anger was so different it was actually fresh :P

sounded like a dang tom drum I dont even think it was screwed on much less tuned
