No DRI are notorious for pioneering crossover thrash.

There are a lot of pioneering thrash bands. Thrash itself is the combination of hardcore punk and metal. Pioneering crossover is like pioneering pop punk. Ask Metallica about the Ramones and Discharge and see what they have to say. I'll bet they're pro Ramones and Discharge.

I don’t care what Metallica thinks about The Ramones.

Yeah I know hardcore punk existed in 1983. I'm not retarded. Metallica being the hardest band on the planet isn't my point. Metallica being a band who merged hardcore punk and metal and did it in a way that was relevant to and changed metal is the point. And in 1983 DRI was a ****ing hardcore band not really doing that much to merge the two sounds, and even when they did they only did so in a way that was a hardcore punk band using Metallica and Slayer riffs. Crossover in general was this. Metallica was a far more forward thinking band.

DRI really bridged the genres though. Metallica was always just metal.

DRI was a hardcore punk band with metal riffs. That's all they were. They were cool. But they could have not existed and nothing would have changed. Maybe Slayer wouldn't have been as fast but I'm sure someone else would have been fast.

Was Damaged important

I know you’re constantly going to say I’m missing the point but you never stated your criteria cleanly

I thought the idea of thrash was known and understood. Thrash = metal + hardcore punk. Doesn't everyone on this ****ing site know that that's what thrash is? Should I get on a train with a billboard and start shouting it to random people while waving my sign at them?

"Hey, ***got! Metallica likes Diamond Head and Discharge! Do you plant tulips?!"
