You don't think that the focus on "technicality" over quality is a bit self-conscious?

It's a really stupid term overall though, just like "hate speech": can be applied to practically anything you don't like.

Bam, unpopular opinion.
His compositions are fine for the time. I've heard that his performances were popular because he was such a good improviser, I wonder what it would have been like to see him play his pieces back in the day.

"Technicality" over quality doesn't work as an argument if we're talking about early DT, assuming you know their history and what their early days were like. They built an audience from nothing at a time when every musical trend was turning away from rock and metal that featured keyboards. Psychotic Waltz had a similar dynamic but they lacked the pop sensibility to get to the next level.

I've seen the term "hate speech" in editorials from WaPo and other major publications used in a juvenile fashion by (supposedly) educated adults: maybe that sets a bad example for people getting into journalism.

I'm talking about the music that has defined them, which includes their early work if you mean garbage like Images and Words or Awake.

Kids these days. People think that editorials are a good way to pick up terminology?

Frown's just mad that he couldn't shred like Petrucci at his age.

I guess it'd be defined as something that makes you uncomfortable like it's so awkward.

Most things I find cringey typically comes from the opposite. Though, there are people that intentionally act cringey like Tim & Eric's comedy.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Images and Words sounds like someone making fun of overwrought and dull musicians.

I have a bigger (I think) and better discography than DT. I'll take that over the shredz.

I'd recommend listening to Images and Words again since evidently you've forgotten.
