Yeah he wasn't that great, but how Mic can call 80s metal cheesy when that was basically 80s metal with cheese intact?

I don't mind his vocals at all, but he's nasal as ****. Also, while on the topic of obnoxious vocalists

Just sayin'

Wouldn't call Waltari 80's cheese since most of their music sounds distinctly 90's.

Nah that was all kinds of 80s heavy/power metal with aesthetics half goofy 80s/half cringy 90s.

I only posted tracks from their first few albums anyway in an attempt to go along with MB's metal tastes. Which I read as being profoundly old-school.

Just like Rick Astley or Weird Al.

I don't even mind him, but I used to hate his vocals.

The reason I brought up Robert Smith was just to point out that he's an acquired taste. Just like the singer in Waltari. I complain a lot about singers, but I also like a lot of singers that are an acquired taste.

Robert Smith doesn't have what I'd call a conventionally "good" singing voice.

He's kinda weak and shrill.

But if it fits the music, it fits the music.

A lot of the singers that I like the least are actually singers that go all in and really over-sing and over-emote the hell out of things. Like James LaBrie in Dream Theater. He's one of the worst.

LaBrie works pretty well on Images & Words and a scattering of other songs across their discography, but if DT were my band I woulda replaced him with the dude from Circus Maximus in '94. He can do the stuff LaBrie does vocally but he does it better and with more power.
