Eno's influence is massively prevalent in multiple genres, but he's never topped The Pearl with Harold Budd.

Look at this gem I found.

The undisputed way for a band to prove that they are not lame to audiences: have a pillowfight.

Sales tanking? Find a mattress.
Not going double platinum? Throw a slumber party.

This isn't even an unpopular opinion, I just wanted to remind everyone of this undisputed fact.

Aside from Africa, Toto was pretty much crap.

May or may not be an unpopular opinion around here.
I honestly can't really gauge that.

"I've got an opinion of a band with over a dozen studio records who've collectively played on thousands of albums I've never really listened to."

They've got their fair share of bland material, but an opinion that dismisses decades of studio work, experience and a large variety of material that crosses multiple genres doesn't really do you any favors. Same to you elph.

Doesn't that just sum up the purpose of this thread?

I like it. They get a pass on that one.

I thought I made this clear back when people were talking about The Beatles here, but you can not like a band and still not dismiss them outright. Nobody said this had to be a thread based on ignorance lol.

From my perspective, your opinion on Toto is like someone dismissing The Residents. Or Zappa. Or The Fall. It's okay if someone doesn't want to spend the time to digest the content, but Toto definitely did a lot of stuff outside of 'Africa", including jazz-fusion and outright progressive rock and even some metal.

I do that to make it clear I'm not personally attacking him for having an opinion. Just that it isn't a good perspective to have when you could easily turn it around and apply it to bands he likes.

If you treated Toto with the same kind of attention you treat bands and artists you've followed in the past, you'd see that I made a good point. They're a longstanding band that experimented outside of the bounds of what they're known for. There's a lot of cool stuff there: you could go check out Lukather's work with others if nothing else. Are you capable of doing something like that? You might be surprised what you learn about your likes and dislikes.

Think about it this way. Someone could pick up This Nation's Saving Grace, hate it, then dismiss you and all the rest of The Fall's output and you'd be like "well, that's ignorant". And you probably wouldn't be able to say anything to convince them otherwise even if you feel they have material worth exploring for that person. That's a common mindset, but that doesn't mean it's a good way to be.
