Lyrics are not necessary to music.

Drake's recent success/stardom is due to actual talent.

I really enjoy Yes' "commercial" album.

and another unpopular opinion:

Electro is not good dance music. and shouldnt even have the word 'house' tagged next to it.

I don't think Primus was really all that awesome.

RHCP
Zepplin
Green Day ( especially american idiot, that album IS amazing. )

i believe that the popularity of a band doesnt change my opinion of them as long as they are actual musicians. if they can give a clinic on an instrument or just the song writing process and i can benefit from it then i respect them no matter how many people love them.

-also a tonne of indie music is terrible. the musician ship tends to be better because they try to do something differnt and have a new sound but im not gunna instantly like them just because people dont know them.
To be honest I wrote that point absolutely incorrectly. I'd rather have someone ignore anything that is mainstream and listen only to less popular stuff that they really like than have someone just listen to the radio and not develop a music taste of their own. If they are listening to less popular music that they don't like, then they can go **** themselves. The fact of today is though, most mainstream music sucks. Enough said. I'd love for anyone to try to convince someone that likes music enough to be on a music forum that any more than 1/10th of those songs, if that, deserve to be in the top 100 songs. That's why, at least for me, I can safely say I tend to not like mainstream stuff. Not to be cool, because it sucks. And yes, lots of indie music is completely ****. No one in the world would deny that.

Also, I know what rap is... Lil' Wayne has a flow, whether you like it or not, there are very few actual famous rappers that do not have a flow at all.

Yea it seems most of the top 100 material is artists with corporate backing.

I meant it sucks. But that doesn't really prove my point. A better example would be to look at the top rock, I don't know who has corporate backing or not anymore, but I can tell you undoubtedly that most of those albums are terrible. Imogen Heap and Yo La Tengo are really good, but the other 23... I meant that most truly popular bands these days are making music like that, and by that I mean bad. All imo, of course.
