I liked the new album. I think it drops off in quality for the second half but I liked it.

Well we might be getting that Tool album sooner than you think so it'll make up for the last twelve years of mediocrity.

This is more unpopular with metal purists than anyone else, but metalcore is one of the best genres of metal and hardcore, as long as you don't listen to whiny mallcore crap like Bullet For My Valentine or Asking Alexandria. Metalcore and mathcore bands like Shai Hulud, Earth Crisis, Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive kick ass.

Again, more unpopular among punk purists, but pop punk (I'm including poppy early punk bands like The Ramones, The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, and The Only Ones in this) is the best genre of punk. That includes melodic hardcore bands like Lifetime, Descendants, and All.

Yeah, it's punk if I like it but not otherwise!

I neither agree, nor disagree. But I'm starting to lean more and more in this direction over time.

The Legendary Pink Dots were never a good band.
