They were savage-esque with their original vocalist, but he couldn't carry the melodic bent they were going for, and then they switched singers and he was too toothless as a screamer for the band to work as an aggressive band, and they were still trying to go both ways in a way that detracted from both ends of their spectrum. They could get it right at times, but in general were flailing.

I think so, and then the band went back to their first singer as if it wasn't emasculating for both parties.

Gorilla Biscuits ****ing suck. I've tried listening to them on multiple occasions and being open minded, but they're not melodic enough to be catchy but too melodic to be truly intense, so they just sound middle of the road and irrelevant. Why do so many hardcore fans love them?

I have recently come to the conclusion that Deftones are a pretty good - sometimes even great - band.
