A lot of classic hip-hop sucks because old school flows sound like lame-ass nursery rhymes.

lol

you're not wrong. there's a lot of great stuff that came out of the 80s but goddamn is a lot of it also corny as ****. bland production, lame flows, god awful lyricism.

it's hit or miss which wouldn't be such an issue if people didn't suck off old school hip hop like it was the best thing ever

^ Yes, I agree. AFAIK, a lot of hip-hop lyrics fall right into the clang group category, so that even when the topic of the lyrics is For Adults Only, they don't entirely disguise an underlying element of childishness:-

Investigators have discovered that adults are prompted by the concept of the last word they hear, so a typical sequence might go: Cat -Dog! - Elephant! -Africa!
Children, on the other hand, are more likely to focus on word sounds and might come up with: Cat -Hat! - Hot! - Pot!

Because of the obvious similarity in sound, words like cat, hat, hot, pot are called a clang group, and one thing that I really don`t like are lyricists who build their lyrics around such obvious rhymes.

Yeah

The rhymes can be cringey

The challenge of finding pathetic rhymes in famous hip hop could be thread worthy.

I think it may have been wu-tang that discovered obfuscation

It's not even the rhymes or the lyrics, just the way they flow. It's really basic, no intricacies.

I know what you mean. I often feel the same way about early rocknroll and pre-bebop jazz.

Too much 80's rap sounds like Vanilla Ice and white people infomercial rap.
