Ever hear the story as to why Pass got so good at improvising?
No.

Because having conviction in your work is just not ****ing cool anymore, and leaving everything unfinished is. People wonder why rock music is dying and rap is taking over as the cultural zeitgeist, but when the only people doing anything interesting and not just rehashing the tropes that were popular 30 years ago are mucking about making rough demo quality music, just too cool to show any sense of masculinity in their music. There are two ways to get rock out of the hole it has dug itself into and that's 1) go the route of jazz and become actual art music, or 2) grow some ****ing balls.
Yes. Nothing inherently wrong with lofi if used right but I agree, I go against the grain on these pretensions 'that's over produced' or 'putting effort into art makes it disingenuous' corn balls.

But to be fair a lot of huge rappers that are blowing up right now do go for a lofi aesthetic and I do enjoy some of them when it's done well. Definitely prefer a much more well polished project though. Seems more heart gets put into things you throw your passion into rather than these half assed after thoughts people make in the moment most of the time.

Edit: Didn't realize this was so far back.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

^ Yes, the Stones' enthusiasm for those old guys brought them to the attention of a whole new generation.
The acoustic guitar and accordian - sorry concertina- on Back Street Girl are both excellent. Not so sure about the lyrics, tbh

Frankly, I don’t believe you.
Close like 7 is close to 10.

It's put through a filter of many other styles so it can be hard to hear but tracks like Kerensa have soloing elements that demonstrate how Pass has influenced me.

There's some real good lo-fi ****. Like old Beck on Mellow Gold and Stereopathetic Soulmanure, but I'm pretty sure that was lo-fi out of necessity because the dude was poor and just making it in the business. There's a charm to it, like if you've ever seen the movie El Mariachi, and it's just so cheaply made but it's really actually just a great movie despite that.

I have to say, until shown otherwise I’m going to assume you get much closer to McLaughlin than Frown does to Pass.

Even I don't have the gall to put myself and Joe Pass in the same sentence.

Hawk, this jam highlights a bunch of my influences all thrown together.

Not even when saying that Joe Pass influenced you when that's true? You have a lot of rules man.

If I had to worship one guitarist, I think I'll throw in with Jay Graydon. One of a kind.

Jay Graydon is great. You must like Ritenour too?
