Idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but lo-fi indie might just be the most limp wristed annoying genre on the planet. It's a genre full of low talented freakshows who have high ambitions to be these bug rockstars, but are just too damn cool to make anything remotely coherent. Because having conviction in your work is just not ****ing cool anymore, and leaving everything unfinished is. People wonder why rock music is dying and rap is taking over as the cultural zeitgeist, but when the only people doing anything interesting and not just rehashing the tropes that were popular 30 years ago are mucking about making rough demo quality music, just too cool to show any sense of masculinity in their music. Gee I wonder why angry teens don't want to listen to your limp wristed bull**** and instead listen to angry ass unapologetically masculine rap music. Really makes you ****ing think. There are two ways to get rock out of the hole it has dug itself into and that's 1) go the route of jazz and become actual art music, or 2) grow some ****ing balls.

I don't think it's unpopular opinion that self-described indie bands are generally lame and terrible. I think rock music has diversified a lot and is still thriving despite not being a zeitgeist, it's just a lot more dynamic and less straightforward as a genre than it used to be.

rock music never died, it gave birth to something way cooler and more diverse than it could ever be.
and as for the lofi indie stuff i would take that over 80s cock rock and 90s grunge/alternative like 80% of the time so i dunno man people ****ting on an entire style of music just triggers me

This is why I make the distinction of self-proclaimed indie artists versus artists that are on an independent label. It's stylized at this point abd BJT don't really fit in with that.

ok but my point is not every self proclaimed indie band is belle and sebastian, there are tons of artists experimenting and pushing boundries under that tag. Alex G and Elvis Depressedly are two that come to mind right off of the bat.
