I feel like the first A Perfect Circle album gives me all the Tool I need - so to speak. A rabid fan would possibly have me lynched for that.

Lulz so Maynard is what you get from Tool? He bogs them down imo. Tool's quality all comes down to the drumming as I've mentioned.

No I think thereøs musical similarities. In a way, APC is like a simpler, poppier, more colorful Tool. Not quite accurate, but they don't feel miles apart musically to me. Then there's the drumming in Tool. I can't really get into a band just for the drumming, plus, while I can see how he's good, their drum tracks seem fairly similar across much of their music. Not saying I couldn't appreciate it more, just that it's likely not enough to make me a Tool fan. Their guitar playing is, uh, mildly boring and monochromatic. I wouldn't forgive any other band for that, so why Tool?

It's cool if you don't like them, I'm just annoyed by the knee jerk dislike for them by people who would just think that they were mediocre if they didn't listen to their music in the context that Tool's ****ty fanbase has created for us.

I can see that, but I really have spent a lot of time trying to like Tool. Giving them a real chance, and then some. I've even owned a couple CD's.

Save for a few bands caught in the ambiguity of the term, traditional heavy metal is right down there with power metal and Christian metal as the worst metal subgenre.

I like Reload (past the first three songs) and Garage Inc. a lot.
But otherwise, yes.
