I do, too. I transferred a bunch of my cassettes to MD. Some of them are old radio shows and are pretty cool. I actually haven’t listened to them in a while but I have a few hundred.

I loved the idea that you could move recordings around, ie change the order of the songs you had on the disc. Also, being able to have scrolling info was cool at the time. But the players/recorders were expensive, and they never released enough albums on MD to make it worth pursuing. Should have been huge really; the sound quality was incredible and you could re-record thousands of times and never get any sound quality reduction at all.

Dammit Jansz! Stole my joke!
And you could insert the scrolling info yourself so if you made a “mix tape” for a friend you could make sure it had the song info programmed in correctly. It was a cool medium.

Hell, before 8 Tracks all you had in your car was radio. My cousin had an 8 track recorder so he could make his own 8 track compilations.

Hey, you might like something like this. It's Daphne Oram slowly speeding up a Sandy Nelson number.

That’s cool.

I mentioned her in my journal.

Yeah. Prior to minidiscs and CDs I was always making compilation cassette tapes. They were great, but if you made a mistake it was difficult/impossible to correct. Anyone remember sitting there, holding the pause button with record pushed down, waiting for the exact moment the music started on the album, or the joy of finally having a tape deck with a slider, so you could decrease the recording volume, allowing you to fade out tracks, particularly at the end, either as a cool thing to do, or with live tracks, or just when you realised in panic you'd miscalculated and the last track wasn't going to fit? Nothing like that unexpected CLICK! when the tape shut off before you were ready for it!
