No they don't have to be at all. It just annoys me when people act like they were these genius demi-gods of music who could do everything better than anyone else. I've met my share of people who worship the Beatles like that, so that's probably why I like the take them down a peg.
That attitude is not confined to only Beatle fans, but also to fans of Led Zeppelin (Signor Chula for instance), Velvet Underground, Metallica and et cetera, et cetera for artist in Pop and hip hop.
