Not sure about Sunbather, but the promotion for New Bermuda did them a huge favour. ANTI- has a pretty big budget.

not really sure how you could be a fan of norweigan black metal but not be into De Mysteriis or Deathcrush.

the funny part is how outrageously alike DMDS sounds to all those other albums everyone loves (just with sicker drums and production)
I think Mayhem's discography is hit or miss, there's like two and a half hits. The half comes from a blend of a few different albums because there's some cool avant-garde metal up in there but more failed avant-garde metal that doesn't sound like anything DMDS is great, too bad people can't move past the vocals (which I love too) |

I remember not thinking much of them after hearing their debut but then Sunbather came out and it blew up. I guess it was the pink "anti-metal" album cover. honestly only listened to New Bermuda once so I cant really comment on its quality but never been too impressed by them. but I guess being labeled as the savior of a genre I don't think needed it would never live up to that anyway

I always thought they were good but they never struck me as gods of the genre. Sunbather is a lot better than New Bermuda though.

I mean, Foetus is cool and all, but he's basically just a watered down, occasionally funkier version of Snakefinger without awesome guitarwork.
