I can't say i'm much of a solo man. It's one of the low points of bands like Metallica, they feel the need to put a solo in every song as if it's a necessity. I'd much rather just stay with the riffs half the time thanks.
Maggot Brain is incredible, but very few songs pull off what that song does. Quote:
It's low-fi yes, but at no point do i doubt they are capable with their instruments and Mangum knows how to write a proper acoustic ditty. Then again a voice like his always splits people. Fair enough, i wouldn't take it away myself but i can understand where you're coming from. In the same sort of way i feel about Billy Corgan and Neil Young i suppose the voice adds that extra feeling of character to the music and it grows on you. |

Once I tried to make a list of my five favorite guitar solos and I just couldn't do it. I got this far and couldn't think of anymore that I honestly liked: -Sultans Of Swing (Dire Straits) -Boredom (Buzz****s) -Another Girl, Another Planet (The Only Ones) Some people don't like keyboards or horns or whatever...I'm just not a guitar guy. |

Your reasoning is bad, as one of the very very very few (and I mean a f*cking few) indie bands of the past decade that actually HAVE some trace of talent, you're telling me they don't. Their music has a very ethereal sound to it and any 10 year old who could make music like that is a f*cking god. Mangum's singing is an acquired taste for sure, but to rant about his singing of all people in the indie scene, when you have talent free hacks like Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom around, suggests to me that you have an obvious personal bias. I don't know how Magnums vocals could grate someones nerves more than Banhart and Newsom's awful catf*ck howling. |
