No ****, genius. It's not like you're on a music forum with a bunch of other people who might be expected to know the difference between glam rock and glam metal.

One thing that does get confusing at times is the difference between glam rock and art rock.

So let's say that I get exactly what he meant. Whether that's "nailing it" or not, I won't make any more of an elaborate defence of that.
Well Hair Metal did borrow from the early 70s Glam movement. It was like the Punk, Funk, and Disco movement never happened. Then you also have Glam Metal during the 80s. So even though people on MB know the different, there is no proof in what context he was using it cause he didn't specify Glam Metal or Glam Rock. I wasn't paying too close attention to whatever The Batlord was to figure out what he meant. (The guy goes around busting people's stones all the time, so there is no need for his cheese to slip off his cracker when someone makes a cheeky comment.)

I've seen AOR used in different ways. Really anything released on an album during the 70s technically be could be considered album oriented Rock. There is also AOR, which is a radio format. It wasn't all Rock ballads, it also had Pomp Rock, Hard Rock etc. That stuff is also known as Arena Rock or Corporate Rock, & more recently as Dad Rock. Few people use it as Adult Orient Rock, which would be Soft Rock or as you say Safe Rock. Just like "indie" refers to how it's released (by independent label) doesn't have an unified sound, even though some use it like it's a genre, the same is true about AOR doesn't mean only Safe Rock/Soft Rock no more than indie means only Twee.

Do you think you could learn to write flowing paragraphs and not just an abrupt series of artlessly connected sentences? It would make your factoid lists less tedious.

I think a band like Roxy Music is a band that straddle both Glam Rock and Art Rock. Bryan Ferry went to Art School, and got his ideas about music and how the band imagine from there from a collage. There on-stage appearance was a bit Glamour, but his idea was they dress different look like they came from different time periods, the 60s, modern dress, and futuristic etc etc You have Eno playing an EMS along with an oboe, and electric piano, backed by the typical Rock band: guitar, bass, and drums.
.
Roxy Music - Virginia Plain 1972

I love Roxy Music and have all their albums. If you look at the genesis of the band, then maybe the genre term applied to them so often (art rock) sort of seems to say something meaningful. Still, art rock is yeat another sort of flimsy genre term that doesn't mean anything too specific. Likewise, glam rock as a genre term seems to sometimes get reduced to "guys wearing slightly fancy costumes while playing rock in the 70's".

Like with everything you said about AOR and indie a bit back: Lots and lots of terms that are only really useful if you're on the same page as the people you are talking to.

AVALON is a deserted island disc for me. Most fully realized Roxy Music album IMO.

I like all their albums, but leaning early. My favourite might be Viva!, their first live album.
The worst album is probably Flesh+Blood, even though it has at least a couple superb tracks.
