OK, I might not give you the answer you want, but I do give you the answer you need.

But what does that even pertain to? The popularity of ______ can be tracked by using the ______ charts provided by ______ . The ______ can be movies, TV, Pop songs, albums sales, Rock album sales, Disco album sale, R&B album sales, or sales numbers grossed, units sold etc. etc. I will say "I'm basing my knowledge of who is/was or isn't/wasn't popular in the US in the 70s on Ron Burgundy."

Not that you need anyone to defend you honour, but I actually get what you meant and consider it a direct answer, not avoidance.

If only the Internet had a shortage of arrogant boxes of rocks.

And then you make a comment about charts.

I don't know what you mean by that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, I mentioned charts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You asked a really wide open and rather ambiguous question about "Popularity." The popularity of I-don't-know-what, and literally left a blank space for it, thinking you have this killer question that I am trying to evade like a shady politician. And it's not like I don't want to answer it cause I am the chess master of oblique moves. Quite frankly I can't cause there is no parameters for it - for what segment of the society, who is getting into what, and when?
