Green Day and Weezer both feel like power pop. Punk or alternative or whatever, they still sound like power pop.

The genre is called danger music. Not even kidding.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danger_music I made a danger music composition where I pass out a pair of long pins to each audience member, then I play all of the top 40 songs of the day at once (using electronics, obviously). After the sound collage is complete, the audience stabs their ears out. I hope to perform it someday.

Maybe if you analyze the underlying riff styles and such, they aren't that different from each other musically if you contrast certain Green Day and Weezer albums. What is punk music if not just three chords and a lot of downstrokes?
