Why do people hate Springstein so much? Is it an unpopular opinion for me to state that his early stuff was simply brilliant rock music? And River is one of the best albums ever.

For the 50th time I'm not hating on Springsteen.

Most of the people I know who hate Springsteen think of him as the guy who sold an obscene number of one of his weaker records and fills up his shows with cheesy pep talks and patriotic anthems.

For me, the first five Springsteen albums are probably the greatest run of albums by anyone. Greetings From Asbury Park is a criminally forgotten debut album. And I agree with you about The River; it's my favorite double album ever.

Diesel and Dust is an incredible slice of Americana from a much misunderstood artist. He is one of the few artists that has tapped into the American psyche and conveys it easily.

I really do need to delve into his back catalogue. Please no recommendations though! I have so much music on the back burner to delve through at the moment.

Nirvana fans who think they know about underground music because they once bought a Meat Puppets album.
The Meat Puppets were crap.
Other bands I think that are crap that some people hero worship on this forum .... Primus , The Melvins , Muse and anything with Mike Patton apart from Faith No More.
I think there is probably not a post I agree with more that I have read on this forum. BUt I would argue that Mike Patton's voice over work is pretty solid

I wouldn't say that's an unpopular opinion. It's more like just a really stupid, idiotic one.

For a start it's acoustic folk. What are these "repeated riffs" he is talking about that supposedly pervade their music? Most of the songs are not riff driven at all?

As for the lyrics, one should at least explain why they find them "horrible" if they are able to make such a comment.
