Then why don't you answer? If Led Zeppelin wasn't underground then they were mainstream, and if they were mainstream they must had had hits. So what were they?

Led Zeppelin - Chart history | Billboard

Whole Lotta Love and The Immigrant Song were both top 40 hits pre 72.

My bad. I was relying on the fact that Led Zeppelin release their first ever single in the UK in 1997.

So you are using "underground" not as opposed to "mainstream," but as having a "grass-root movement." my bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just because a band wasn't underground doesn't mean they're mainstream. That's like saying if you're not conservative then you're a liberal. There is always an in between.

The in between being cult following. You know the vast majority of people did not at first embrace Loop Zoop. The select few did, and they're who pushed it to the top of the charts.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

And going back to where this conversation started, that's more what Led Zeppelin was when they first came out. They weren't really mainstream, but they weren't underground. They had a nice cult following that took them to the top of the charts.
