I'm kind of a huge fan of the Dead. I've been a huge fan for over 40 years, and I say there's nothing not prog about them. Country is one of the main genres they merged with rock in their progginess--that's one of the primary aspects of progressive rock, melding characteristics of other genres with rock.

I take back what I said because I've taken the plunge into their discography. I plan to do reviews in my journal. This thread actually made me want to do that. So, i'll take your word for it that they are proggy. I'm kind of excited to listen to them, as well.

Well, or rather you wouldn't if you don't think they're prog.

They were a boiling pot of Americana music. Pop, folk, country, white blues, Jerry's leads hinted at Jazz, Gospel, and Bluegrass
Again, that "boiling pot" aspect is one of the primary (but not the only) characteristics of progressive rock.

I learned long ago not to debate with a Deadhead.

You're right. I'm wrong. Have a nice day.

Is that surprising? They have one of the biggest cult followings of any band. The fans clearly have a personal connection to the music.

I had never heard of Grateful Dead before. What's with all these extremely popular bands I hear about way too late? :'c.

It's the same as running into a crowd of Radiohead fans. Never talk negatively about it. Not a bad thing by any means, it shows passion.
