Grateful Dead is 1000% the most overrated band of all time. Bunch of burned out stoners that would ramble on for hours live and somehow the smelly hippy people thought it was awesome.
I've tried at least two dozen times to get "it" and failed.

I can enjoy Grayfolded because it's so dense, but I highly agree.

That's what's actually considered a death grip.

I agree. All it is is just really long, boring country and blues. The funny thing is now all the people I run into who like them are the kind of people who would've thrown rocks at hippies back in the day.

The Dead are really about song writing and melody. They're also more importantly a studio band not a live band. Or were, I mean. Both their fans and critics generally misunderstand them.
If you don't like Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, to each his own, but those records are in no way directionless endless blues jams. They've always hung their hats on good songs. |

Their studio work is just plain ole country rock from where I'm sitting.

Give this a spin, absolutely no blues or roots influence here, despite the title, instead - hippie space music. My favorite, miles above any other GD record. (btw I think American Rose is pretty boring too)
