I think Kendrick is hands down the best lyrical rapper of the past five years. You really don't consider anything from GKMC or TPAB to be above mediocre?

I'll add something else when Kendrick Lamar spoke out and said voting was bull**** I had a lot of respect for that. But when he got heat for it he pussed out. I think that lack of courage shows in his bland hip hop. Real talk. Give me Earl any day.

Earl is a phenomenal emcee though, I agree with you on that. I Don't Like Shit was criminally underrated last year.

That would be Billy Woods.

He would definitely be in my top 5, maybe even 3.

I wanna just throw in a few honestly held unpopular musical opinions. Like a drive by shooting.
1. Music nerd dudes of a certain age vastly overrate the creativity of 60's/70's rock music as compared to a lot of more modern music. Basically, I think most old rock music is pretty predictable and tedious. Roxy Music and Queen get a high five, though. (Bowie too, but he's not really my bag). 2. Guns'N'Roses were pretty lame. Axl sounded like a strangled cat and Slash only knew how to wank. They only ever seemed good because so little mainstream rock had any balls at the time. 3. Trying to argue for objectivity when it comes to any artform is something only people with tiny brains and huge egos would ever attempt. 4. The Beach Boys were unforgiveably corny, easy listening elevator muzak. 5. USA is currently - considering it's size - a relatively dull country in terms of bands worth listening to. If any of this makes you angry, go back and read point number 3 again and remember that I only believe in subjective opinions about music |
