Pinkerton is barely emo though? More just pop punk really. As for the rest of their stuff I'd just call it power pop.

Lyrically I would say their early material is without a doubt classified as emo, their latest as well. They do take a power pop approach instrumentally though, no disagreements there.

I haven't put a ton of a thought into it really, I've just always been under the impression they considered themselves to be an emo band. The nerd anthem thing is true, but I only really consider their first two albums to be "emo" and the latest to be a slight return to that.
