You sound a little confused. Zappa cut ties because Beefheart was a notorious dick who terrorized his band members. Still, you can't deny that the vision isn't brilliant. If you go in expecting them to be a Led Zeppelin cover band, you're a ****ing idiot and of course you're going to hate it. If you go in expecting something a little bit weird, you'll find that there's really something to it. Ever tried some kinky sex thing that was kind of weird at first but then you totally got into it? TMR is the musical equivalent of that.

Tl;dr your music taste<<<<<<<<mine, gramps.

Grandpa Alert: (Led Zeppelin cover band? = probably the lamest from you yet. I expect more man)

You are a decades later bandwagon fan. Don't be talking **** to a person that grew up while it was happening. Ignored his **** way back then when it was first coming out in real time cause the bits I heard sucked. Still hate it now.

Well they were friends when they were young, and now they both passed away. Maybe they had some cosmic reconciliation pass the grave?

I never took Captain Beefheart to be sloppy beginners, in fact you had to be a solid musician to be in the band. It's like an optical illusion, but with music. They sounded like under-achievers but they weren't.

"Cover band" in this instance is a euphemism, what they did was actually worse than being a cover band, it was outright subliminal plagiarism or just plain plagiarism. Irregardless I still like Led Zeppelin.

Wait so is Chula trying to downplay the immense amount of technical ability in most of Beefheart's catalog? You're kidding yourself if you think you could begin to do what some of those musicians did on TMR

Seriously? I'm just going to assume that the story behind their band name has something to do with someone calling them duller than dishwater, and them just running with it.

When you say "The Dead" do you mean Grateful Dead mach II the band that continued after Jerry Garcia? Um I avoided that band, The Grateful Dead, cause it was like a cult-band or the fans were like a cult or the band had a cult following - something like that. Anyway that aspect of the Grateful Dead kinda turn me off. Although I like other bands that were jam bands from roughly the same time-period, like The Allman Brothers Band and Traffic.

edit I am a fan of David Grisman who collaborated with Jerry Garcia.

It's hella appropriate. If Frown's going to try and downplay my disdain as somehow uninformed then I'll fire back at his bandwagon status.
