Way to pick one of their weakest songs, Chula. I could never understand why that's their most popular album, it's a total snoozefest.
Now Tommy is the way to go

You're mucked up and basically incoherent when you drink.

Surprisingly, that's actually a very popular music opinion. Try this one on for size
Closing Time and Nighthawks at the Diner are my least favourite albums in Tom Waits' discography.

True. I would even extend this to bands like Marilyn Manson, who's early sound that made him popular was heavily dependent on his keyboardist, Pogo. Once he left the band, none of his replacements could contribute the same way he did. The sad thing is that most casual fans don't even know who he is, so his work goes unnoticed.

That might suggest that that specific keyboardist isn't really that vital to the music if nobody but the diehards presumably noticed. Were those other albums less popular? Not really a fan of the guy so I haven't followed his discography much.
