Why? It doesn't have to be all or nothing. You can listen to Pink Floyd without having to give up AC/DC. There's a time and place for everything. Unless of course, you're just a little girly girl.

@YD answer the question.

Tbh I find those two songs to be leaps and bounds better than any metal of the groove, power, and nu variety.

We're talking about death metal, not AC/DC. There's tons of great metal out there that's plenty badass while also being good music. I just don't see the appeal of stuff that tries to be badass but is also bad music

So we're applying objective labels to music, now? Prog rock's time has finally come!

Oh, and while we're on the subject of Gorguts, I can listen to Obscura for a song or two at a time, but any longer and it becomes incredibly tedious. I'm all like: so... more seemingly arbitrary time signature changes and dissonant riffs and ****?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Then again I don't see a lot of it as arbitrary, the way their music evolves makes sense imo.

Regardless, after two or three minutes, it just becomes an endurance test.

What's worse about these tracks when they're compared to Nu Metal? All five of these Death Metal songs are much more pleasurable than any of the Nu Metal I've come across, and I've heard my fair share. Though, I also kinda disagree with Frownland on Power Metal being worse than Death Metal, since I enjoy both PM and DM. However, I have no strong leanings either way between those two sub-genres, so basically I'm not going to claim it's better than DM, I'm just claiming it still holds some great stuff within it's borders as does DM. I'll leave it at this for now, unless anyone's interested in hearing the stuff I think is of good quality from Power Metal, or if these Death Metal selections are poorly received, in which case I would like to get a clearer idea of which specific aspects were the most unlikable parts of the tracks, to possibly give me a chance of narrowing down some better suited selections for you if you're interested.

Spoiler for Great Death Metal:

I think I'd rather shove a fork in my ear than listen to those for more than 20 seconds, sorry. Although Death is a pretty good band usually, but they've always sounded more like a thrash metal band to me anyway. If I'm in the mood for metal there's tons of excellent stuff out there I can turn to. Just because I strongly dislike one subgenre of metal doesn't mean I'm not a fan of almost every other subgenre. What I hate is complete garbage like this:

And old school Linkin Park is considered nu metal right? I mean I'm not exactly a fan of that stuff but I sure as hell like it more than death metal.

Exactly what is it about DM that you don't like? Cause I'm not much of a fan of Dying Fetus either, mainly because I consider them to be poor songwriters who just string together tech wank.
